Frequently asked questions

Below you'll find a selection of our most frequently asked questions. If you'd like to know anything else, we're just a message away - just email us at hello@hollandcabinetry.com and we'll be delighted to help.

Do you offer a kitchen design service?

Yes, we offer a full kitchen design service. Once we've taken a look at your architect plans or received photos and dimensions of your existing space, along with an understanding of your appliance and style wish list, we'll provide you with an initial ballpark figure and sketches for your kitchen or cabinetry project. If you're happy with our initial ideas, we'll then get to work on a set of CAD drawings and a finalised quote. The design drawings will outline the layout, cabinetry sizes, finish, suggested colours and even the internals of each cabinet.

Is your design service free?

Yes, we offer this as a complimentary service for those who are happy with their initial ballpark figure and are keen to work with us on their cabinetry project. However, these CAD drawings do require a lot of time and effort so, as a very small business, we politely ask that you only ask us to provide design drawings if yours is a serious enquiry.

Does Holland Kitchens & Cabinetmakers have a showroom?

Unfortunately, we don't have a showroom - as a small team, we'd be unable to have a daily presence in a showroom, but we're more than happy to host visitors to our Grantham workshop if you'd like to chat about our process and see any cabinetry projects being built. We're also happy to bring door samples to any site visits so you can get a feel of the quality and finish of our cabinetry.

Do you just make kitchens?

Absolutely not! We're a cabinetmaking company so can design, build and install cabinetry for any room in your home, including playroom storage, media units, libraries, boot rooms, pantries, utilities, wardrobes, alcove units, home offices, linen cupboards, vanity units and more.

Do you supply cabinetry handles and hardware?

Unless otherwise specified, standard ranges of hardware and handles will be included in our quotes. However, if you have any special requests or already have a particular handle in mind, please do let us know so we can include accurate pricing within your quote.

Do you supply worktops?

We work closely with World of Marble in Langar, Nottinghamshire, who have their own showroom where you can learn more about worktop options, including quartz, granite and marble. We're also happy to liaise with any other worktop company on your behalf, sharing plans and arranging template dates and installation.

Do you supply appliances and flooring etc?

We're happy to make recommendations or suggestions but, as a small cabinetry company, we do not supply appliances or flooring etc as standard. Most of our customers source their own appliances and share the specification of each appliance with us so we can build the cabinetry housing to suit.

Do you also arrange other tradesman and contractors?

We're unable to manage full design projects and can't provide any electrical, plumbing or building work required within your project, but we're happy to recommend a number of reliable tradesman if you're within the Lincolnshire area.

What is your cabinetry made from?

In general, our cabinetry face frames are constructed using responsibly sourced tulip wood; our doors are made from either tulip wood or moisture-resistant MDF, depending on your preference; our cabinetry internals are created using oak veneer sheets, and our dovetail drawer boxes and drawer inserts are made from solid oak or walnut. However, if you have special request or a certain timber in mind for any element of your cabinetry, please let us know.

Do you make dovetail drawer boxes?

Yes, we make our own dovetail-jointed drawer boxes by hand. Not only do we enjoy including this element of traditional craftsmanship within our kitchen designs, but dovetail drawer boxes are also incredibly sturdy and durable. Each dovetail drawer box can take around four to five hours to make by hand, so you can imagine the amount of time, effort and love that goes into just this one element of a cabinetry project.

How is your cabinetry finished?

All of our cabinetry is hand-sprayed or hand-painted by spray finisher Loz (of Finished by Fiorentino) in our workshop before installation in your home.

Should I choose a sprayed or painted finish on my cabinetry?

This is completely down to personal preference. A sprayed finish is a completely 'flat' finish without any visible brushstrokes, while a painted finish has its final coat gently layed-off with a paintbrush, leaving the subtle brushstrokes behind. Though either option is equally hard-wearing, a hand-painted finish can easily be touched up at home should your cabinetry suffer any knocks or damage. We don't supply our cabinetry unpainted.

Can I choose any colour for my cabinetry?

Yes, we can colour-match our cabinetry to almost any shade from almost any paint manufacturer. There are thousands of colours available, so we're also happy to advise on the best colours for your particular room and can help narrow down the options if you're feeling a little overwhelmed by paint samples and colour charts!

How much does your kitchen cabinetry cost?

Handmade kitchens can vary so greatly in cost that it's difficult to provide an average. However, as a guideline, expect a quote of around £15,000 to £20,000 for a small kitchen, £20,000 to £40,000 for a medium-sized kitchen and £40,000-plus for a large kitchen. Please note, this is a guideline cost for the handmade cabinetry, handles, delivery and fitting only, and does not include worktops or appliances. For a more accurate ballpark figure for your kitchen project, please send details over to hello@hollandcabinetry.com and we'll be more than happy to provide this to you.

What is the payment schedule for a Holland Kitchens & Cabinetmakers project?

For larger projects, including kitchens, we usually request a 20-25% deposit one month before the workshop build begins, followed by equal payments as the build progresses, and the final 20-25% invoiced upon completion. For smaller cabinetry projects, such as wardrobes, boot rooms and pantries, we usually request an 80% deposit one month before the workshop build begins, with the final 20% balance due upon completion. â€‹â€‹
